Accused Sex Scandal Teacher From Maine Found Not Guilty

MaineFormer Kennebunk High School teacher Jill Lamontagne has been found not guilty on 14 counts alleging she sexually assaulted a then 17-year-old student.

In York County Superior Court this week, prosecutors argued the relationship between the student and Lamontagne, who was 28 at the time, changed from one of support and trust to “something inappropriate.”

“It was no longer academic, it was sexual,” said Nicholas Heimbach, York County assistant district attorney. “This is about a person in a position of authority taking advantage of a student.”

Defense attorney Scott Gardner disputed that claim saying the alleged sexual encounters were an emotionally troubled student’s “fantasies.”

“Jill Lamontagne took the stand because, for the first time in over a year, she had the chance to tell her side of the story,” Gardner said.

The 12-member jury was handed the case after three and a half days of testimony. They reached a verdict in approximately two hours.

The jury found Lamontagne, 30, not guilty on all charges.

Today is a great day for the Grading the Newest Sex Scandal Teacher industry. You might think that’s the opposite of the truth, but you’d be wrong.

One, I am all about truth. Any time justice is served, it’s a reason for all citizens of the nation to rejoice. As a wise man once said, better that a thousand guilty SSTs go free than one innocent teacher is convicted.

Second, I’m happy to report I smelled a false accusation on this right from the jump. There was never any confirmation. She denied the allegations. And the kid himself admitted to having mental health issues. It just never felt right:

Geez. I feel kind of bad about this one. Teacher Sex Scandals are supposed to be uplifting and fun. All about women so thirsty and in need of validation they seduce teenage boys and it ends up happily ever after in forbidden texts and clandestine classroom hook ups. Not the kid feeling “used” and attempting suicide. That’s not at all what we want. Not to mention in this case the husband seems to be a decent New England guy who’s always wearing a Bruins or Sox hat. That is really depressing stuff. … This one just leaves me cold.

Most importantly, Jill Lamontagne needs to be exonerated and her family needs to have it’s reputation restored. And we need to proclaim her innocence in order to do the right thing. Because like with  violent crime, any time you falsely accuse someone, you make it harder for actual victims to come forward and be believed. If someone out there is really boning his teacher, we don’t want his classmates to think he’s making it up just like this kid in order to impress them. We want to grade the guilty, not tear down the innocent. Besides, with so many SSTs would there willing to throw their careers away for actual sex with their students, why tear down a sane, law abiding woman? For shame, kid. And congratulations to Mrs. Lamontagne and her attorney. Justice is done.
